Beauty? Love? Loneliness?

I was asked what beauty is and my first response scared me.
All I said was looking pretty
Looking like other people’s standards.
All I said was how you see yourself and what you want to make better.
And when I finished, I listened to what I had said again.
I really listened and I really heard and I understood.
I quickly corrected and said no wait that’s not right
I don’t know because that’s not true
I’ve never known because all we see today
Is first impressions. Nothing of substance to really tell
But I guess I do know then
It’s not physical, or first appearance
It’s the way their face lights up when they smile
And the little details missed by
Today’s judgemental society
It’s the uniqueness of their personality
And how they show to others
They they care
It’s the way they interact and the way they hold themself
And the times
They look you in the eye
When no one else has the guts
I was asked what beauty is
And all I said was please don’t ask that
It’s not a question that gets a positive answer
So please go pick another study.

And just when you mean to tell her you have no love to give her
She leans her head towards you, with a glimmer in her eyes,
Everything about her seems to suggest you fit together
And when she turns around and lays her head in your lap
She begins to watch the clouds for shapes of beauty
So you lean your back on a fine oak tree
And you eyes wander up to the sky looking for the shapes she sees
It is this moment that you realize you do have love to give her

Dear Loneliness,
I know we have become great friends
In the years we’ve been together
But I’m afraid to say our time is up
You need to say goodbye
Yes I realize this is hard
And I sympathize with you
However I want to take my turn
I’m enjoying life as much as you have
Though I must confess,
Deep down inside of me
I’m scared to let you go
I’ve learned to live and cope
And I don’t know any other way
I once was told
“You’ll just know when the time is right”
I know that the time is now
However unsteady I may feel I am
We both need to move on.
